Blood Lead Testing

We offer quick and reliable blood lead testing at all JCHD locations. A simple finger stick provides results in about 5 minutes. We monitor elevated lead levels for all children in Jefferson County, even if they were tested somewhere else. Testing is recommended for children ages 1–6, or at any age if they may have been exposed to lead.

Protecting children from lead exposure helps prevent lifelong health problems. If a child’s blood lead level is 3.5 or higher, we provide follow‑up testing until the level drops below 3.5.

Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI)

Anyone can come to our clinic for STI testing or treatment. You do not need insurance to receive care, and we welcome everyone in our community. If you have questions about pricing, please call our front desk so we can give you the most up‑to‑date information.

Many people think they would notice symptoms, but most STIs do not cause any signs at all. The only way to know for sure is to get tested. If you are sexually active, regular testing is an important way to protect your health.

We offer fast, easy, and confidential testing for common infections, including:

  • Trichomoniasis (Trich)
  • Gonorrhea
  • Chlamydia
  • HIV
  • Syphilis
  • Hepatitis C (Hep C)

Testing is simple, and we also offer treatment and referrals when needed. Please do not urinate for at least one hour before your appointment.

Chronic Disease Screenings

We offer several low‑cost tests to help you stay on top of your health. Anyone can receive services at our clinic, no matter your insurance status. Some laboratory tests require a physician’s order. We partner with Quest to keep lab costs as low as possible, and we never want cost to be a barrier. If you need blood work, please call us so we can help you get the care you need.

We can refer you to helpful resources, including our primary care nurse practitioner on the Mobile Health Center and our registered dietitian. If you want, we can also share your results with your primary care doctor.

Communicable Disease Testing

Communicable diseases are illnesses that can spread from person to person through the air, by touch, or through contact with body fluids. Our health department offers testing for several common diseases to help keep you, your family, and our community healthy. We bill insurance and also provide services to people who do not have insurance.

Tuberculosis (TB)

We offer two types of tests for tuberculosis (TB):

  1. PPD Skin Test:
    1. A small amount of fluid is injected just under the skin on your inner forearm.
    2. You will need to return 48-72 hours later so staff can check your arm and read the result.
  2. Blood Test:
    1. A staff member draws a small blood sample.
    2. We send the sample to a lab, which checks it for signs of TB infection.

Covid and Flu Rapid Testing

We provide rapid testing for both COVID‑19 and influenza (flu).

  • Testing is done with a quick nasal swab.
  • Results are available the same day.
  • Patients should call ahead to schedule their test.
  • Testing is done as a drive‑up service at our Hillsboro office.

Lice

Jefferson County Health Department can check you or your child for head lice. We can offer treatment options, prevention tips, and documentation if needed.
