The Jefferson County Health Department reports 40 positive COVID-19 cases from the Festus Manor Care Center. These positives include both residents and staff. One of the previously reported COVID-19 deaths was a Festus Manor resident, a female in her 80’s.
The facility has notified employees, residents and family members, and is working closely with Jefferson County Health Department to contain the virus. “We are in contact with our family members and are doing everything we can to support them,” states a Festus Manor spokesperson. “We are also doing everything we can to ensure we prevent the spread within our facility through isolation and quarantine protocols. Our staff and residents will continue to adhere to CMS, CDC, local and state guidelines which include highly restrictive guest access as well as the elimination of group functions until further notice.”
Jefferson County Health Department has immediately implemented a comprehensive testing strategy for residents and staff. JCHD arranged for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including N95 masks, goggles, Tyvek suits, and shields to be delivered to the facility as well.
Those who live in residential care, skilled nursing, or assisted living facilities are especially vulnerable to this virus. “It is imperative that we work together as a community and protect our vulnerable neighbors by staying home except for the essentials,” states Director Vollmar.
Anyone who has COVID-19 symptoms such as dry cough, difficulty breathing and fever, should isolate themselves from others and call a healthcare provider.
Jefferson County Health Department continues to follow CDC guidelines to protect public health and limit the spread of infection.
