Youth Mental Health in Jefferson County
Mental health encompasses our psychological, social, and emotional well-being. Having good mental health is a crucial part of a child’s development as it can allow them to build positive emotional, social, communication, and thinking skills. These skills are better known as protective factors. Protective factors are anything that can lower the likelihood of negative outcomes. These factors can come from an individual or an environmental level. Examples include:
High self-esteem
Good coping skills
Supportive relationships with family/friends
Opportunities for engagement in the community (sports, clubs, groups etc)
Positive physical development
In order for children to obtain these protective factors they have to have a good baseline. This page will focus on the areas of nutrition, mental health, and physical health. You will find resources for kids, parents, and teachers that can help children live their healthiest lives!
