The Chest Clinic is available to evaluate and treat uninsured persons with Tuberculosis disease or infection. Dr. Chandra Dommaraju M.D. and Jefferson County Health Departments Tuberculosis Program Coordinator, Christine Bartels RN, staff the clinic. Dr. Dommaraju is on staff at Jefferson Regional Medical Center and is a specialist in Infectious Diseases.
Patients who need a chest x-ray are referred to the X-Ray Imaging Center located on the JRMC campus. It is the patient’s responsibility to have their chest x-ray done PRIOR to their appointment with Dr. Dommaraju.
Patients are seen by appointment only. Chest Clinic is held once a month as scheduled by Jefferson County Health Department. The initial visit includes an interview with Christine Bartels RN, who will review health history information and provide the patient with instructions regarding their care and follow up. Lab work may be indicated. The patient is then evaluated by Dr. Dommaraju.
Anti –tuberculosis medications prescribed by Dr. Dommaraju are filled by the Health Department through a State contracted pharmacy. Medications are sent to the Health Department of your choice for pick up. Jefferson County Health Department dispenses medication Monday thru Thursday 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. No appointment is necessary to pick up your medicine although one is recommended.
Patients on anti-tuberculosis medicine are seen for a minimum of two additional visits. Usually after two months into therapy and one final visit upon completion of medication. Standard minimum therapy is presently nine months.
There is currently no charge for your office visits, medications, or your chest X-ray through JRMC Imaging Center. There is a charge for lab work should it be deemed necessary.
